Writing About Our Course Stories [Categories: Life Choice, Course Reading, Re-Genre]: Please complete the following:
Blog Introduction : The focus of this blog is to use what professor Sabatino calls intertexual fiction to write to write a short story. I will do so by using excerpted language from three of our course stories used in my previous blogs. The stories I will be using are The Yellow Wallpaper,The Lottery and Redeployment.
Re-Genre Analysis : Tom had been in the hospital for months . Somehow he’d lost track of time. Tom was a war veteran who had lost everything he’d ever owned in a hurricane a few years back. All he had was an old black box that contained his most prized possessions and memories. The black box grew shabbier each year: by now it was no longer completely black but splintered badly along one side to show the original wood color, and in some places faded or stained. He suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. A disorder characterized by failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. This combined with his constant urge to drink was never a good mixture. He often got visits from his old friend James . James often tried to help Tom. One day while sitting next to toms bed, James asked Tom “How did you end up like this?” Tom responded “ I sometimes fancy that in my condition if I had less opposition and more society and stimulus but John says the very worst thing I can do is to think about my condition, and I confess it always makes me feel bad. John was Toms nurse. Tom and James talked for hours and hours until visiting time was over. They discussed their child hood and weird traditions they had growing up .The problem is your thoughts don’t come out in any kind of straight order. You try not to think about home. Tom had a very tough childhood. Tom watched his mother get stoned during a neighborhood tradition called the Lottery . Growing up without a mother was extremely tough for him . One of the reasons he joined the marines . To escape his relality and find something to refocus his anger toward . Through everything he could always count on James from bullies at school to the death of his father last year . James was always there. One of the reasons tom asked him to come to the hospital. He wanted someone else there when he got the news. Tom was being tested for cancer . The nurse came in and gave time the best news ever he was cancer free . He instructed Tom to come back in a moth to make sure the results were the same and everything was still okay . He left Tom and James to celebrate. Him and James were so excited they could do all the things they talked about . James left the room to use the bathroom . As he walks the halls he hears some doctors talking " uhh oh , I think I may have mixed up the results, but he was so excited I'll just tell him next month " James couldn't believe what he was hearing . He quickly used the bathroom and returned to the room . When he got there he found himself in a lost for words . All he could say was " hey buddy where would you like to go first ? " " the beach " Tom replied I always felt happy there .
