This page is for my Research paper. For this paper I will discuss the difference between Norway's Prison system and Americas and why I think America should model Norway's system. This is a topic from the documentary, Where to Invade Next . I plan to use research to persuade readers.
In my English Composition 2 course we watched a documentary called Where to Invade Next. This documentary touched on many different topics. As a class we used these topics to formulate questions for our research paper. Next we used those questions to form arguments in our blog posts : where to invade Next Arguments . After doing this assignment I realized that I did not want to do my research on any of the topics that I chose for my blog. I decided to write my paper on a topic that I was the most interested in while watching the documentary. I decided to write about the difference between Americas prison system and Norway's prison system.
To start my research process I used the Delaware County Community College library database. I found two really good articles on there one titled Prison Break by Dashka Slater and another titled Criminal (In)Justice in the City and Its Associated Health Consequences by Golembeski, Cynthia and Robert Fullilove . Then I found some articles online and began writing my paper. To start the process of organizing my paper I took all my sources printed them out and began to highlight any information I thought would be really use for the research. I had chosen which were mass incarceration and lowering the recidivism rate. After I found all the facts I did citations for each and put it next to the quote that it went along with. This was really helpful when I went to insert quotes in my writing. In class we had a discussion about setting up your paper and what each section should and should not have. This was very helpful for me to have an idea what my paper should look like. We also talked about how to formulate a thesis statement. Which made me feel better about the thesis statement I chose for my paper.
After writing my first draft I briefly met with Professor Sabatino to discuss what needed to be fixed within my paper. I needed to work on making my introduction flow with the second paragraph. He even pointed out that my thesis was clean and clear. After fixing the stuff that we talked about I felt very confident in my next draft. Even though I know it's not finished I was very proud of my progression as a writer. I plan to keep revising my paper by possibly adding another reason and expanding on my current research.
